About The Author

My name is Olivia Sylvester and I currently reside in Winnipeg, Canada. I'm working on my Ph.D. in Natural Resources Management at the University of Manitoba. Harvesting foods from farms and forests is something I spend a lot of time thinking about, both personally and professionally. As part of my Ph.D. research you can find me in the south of Costa Rica learning how to harvest, prepare, and eat wild foods from my Bribri colleagues.

Recently, my interests have focused on supporting human rights to food; this makes it necessary for me to think about the whats, hows, and whys of sustainability and food justice. Exploring these questions is precisely what drives this blog.

In addition to doing research, I am a student representative for the International Society of Ethnobiology and a member of the IUCN's Commission on  Environmental, Economic, and Social Policy. Through these networks, I apply my reserach to programs relevant to peoples' rights to food.
